On-going activities at Catalina State Park, Tucson

Perfect time of the year for RV Snowbirds to visit the popular Catalina State Park. It sits just a few miles north of Tucson, Ariz., is within easy access of wilderness and features numerous family activities. Here are a few listed on the park’s Website:

CATA_ConcertFirst Saturdays Concert Series:
The first Saturday of every month, enjoy the music in the park with the Santa Catalina Mountains as the backdrop. All shows are at the Trailhead Stage. Concert times vary. Feel free to bring a chair and favorite foods. Free popcorn is provided by the Friends of Catalina State Park. Park entrance fee applies.

Catalina State Park Nature Program: Saturdays, Trailhead
10am.-1pm. Learn and see many reptiles that live naturally in the Sonoran Desert. Listen to our experts talk about the creatures and their adaptions for surviving in the desert. This is a live reptile exhibit and much more! This is fun for all ages! Program is weather permitting.

Guided Hikes:  Sundays. Times vary. Hike Meeting Locations Vary
Explore the trails of Catalina State Park with experienced hiking guide, Gaston. Consult website to learn of hiking routes. Please register by 4 PM Saturday prior to the hike at VHC.Gaston@gmail.com. For safety reasons, four hikers are required for a hike to occur. As hikes depart promptly, please arrive 5 minutes early. If rain threatens, the guide will phone the registered hiker ASAP or about one hour before the scheduled hike time, whichever comes first. Please inform the guide of any medical condition, medication, or allergy to Aspirin.

Sunday Guided Bird Walk: Every Sunday, Picnic Area
8am. Join experienced bird guide, Max, on a bird walk through the park. He will help you spot and identify the various birds that visit and live in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. This is eventful for novices as well as seasoned birders. Please bring binoculars, and a bird guide (if you have). This walk lasts several hours.

Our Knights in Spiny Armor: Mondays, Trailhead
8:30am. This short hike with leader, Monty, is about the majestic cactus, the saguaro, which grows only in the Sonoran Desert. Whether you are new to the desert or just love saguaros, this event is for you.

Wednesday Guided Bird Walk: Every Wednesday, Trailhead Parking Lot Picnic Tables
8am. Both novice and seasoned birder enjoy the variety of birds that visit and live in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. Our experienced bird guide, Mary Ellen, will help you spot and identify various birds as you walk through the park. Please bring binoculars, and a bird guide (if you have). This eventful walk lasts several hours.
