There is definitely a “Camping Surge,” according to the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds.

ARVC President/CEO Linda Profaizer gives the following stats in her recent association update:

Tent sales: Up 28 percent in March; up 14 percent since Jan. 1 (REI)

Gear: Camping, fishing, outdoor clothing sales up 13 percent last quarter (Cabela’s)

Backpacking: Camping up 7.4 percent last year, backpacking up 18.5 percent (Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association)

Campsites: Reservations up 13 percent this year (California State Parks)
