Garner State Park in south central Texas (see map below) has 1419.8 acres (10 water acres of the Frio River) of recreational facilities.
The park is extremely popular in the summer because it offers camping, hiking, nature study, picnicking, canoeing, fishing, swimming in the Frio River (unsupervised), seasonal miniature golf, paddle boat and kayak rentals (mid-March through Labor Day weekend), bike riding (surfaced).
There are hundreds of campsites of every description spread across seven camping area. We have a site with electric and water in the older section of the park within 50 feet of the spring-fed Frio River for $17/day.
FYI only telephone reception in these parts is AT&T. Only WIFI is at the Visitor Center and Park Headquarters. Jimmy and I drove more than a mile to the Visitor Center to check e-mail and for me to post this entry.

I’ve already made plans for a trip to Garner State Park in the next few days. Even though it is still winter, I know that Texas has pretty mild weather during this time. My family and I love to go camping, and when we are out in the open, we like doing as much as we can. Of course, at the end of the day, we go back inside the RV and just hang out together. I recently bought a Tailgater that we use whenever we are inside. Since we are staying here through the Super Bowl, the Tailgater will be helpful in letting us watch the game there. I work for DISH and use the Tailgater, and I really think that every RV should have one. It makes watching TV wherever you are so much easier. In this area where a few phone providers work, I’m glad I can still catch the Super Bowl with the Tailgater!
