This winter RVing Snowbirds may be leaving their chilly hometowns, but they don’t leave behind their thirst for culture. And, lucky for us, there are numerous exemplary art museums in America’s Sun Belt. Upcoming exhibitions and colorful cultural events in Snowbird Country include:

Heard Museum, Phoenix, Arizona

Pablita Velarde, “Betrothal,” 1953. (Heard Museum Collection)

If you are an admirer of American Indian art, make your way to Phoenix‘s Heard Museum.  You will experience some of the country’s most creative work of Native artists. The Heard presents the “stories of American Indian people from a first-person perspective.”

HOME: Native People in the Southwest features  prized paintings from the permanent collection.  Works also include sculptures, jewelry, poetry, and personal recollections of the cultures of Southwest Native people.

Dali Museum, St. Petersburg, Florida

Salvador Dali

Another favorite stop for many Snowbirds is the Dali Museum, in St. Petersburg, Florida. It features the life and work of that ‘wild and crazy’ surrealist Salvador Dalí (1904-1989). One exhibition not to miss is Magritte and Dali.   It is a first-of-its-kind special exhibition dedicated to the world’s two most celebrated surrealists. It runs Dec. 15-May 19, 2019.
