Looking for places to pull over on way through So. Calif., consider James Dean Memorial

Now that it is almost time to hitch up the RV and head south for the winter, I’ve been researching possible interesting road stops along our route.

One Web site, Weird in California, listed a number of roadside attractions including the James Dean Memorial between I-5 and U. S. Route 101 on State Route 26 northwest of Bakersfield.

The memorial is located near the fatal car crash site where, a little more than 56 years ago, cultural icon James Dean died tragically in a head-on traffic accident. Those of us who were youngsters at the time can still remember what a huge impact Dean’s sudden death had on the youth of that generation.
