‘Tour de Fat’ still pedaling after 12 years

I stumbled onto this (now collectable-$0.99 on ebay) ‘brew coaster’ the other day while rummaging through my old RV writing files.

This particular ‘Beerstream Dream Team‘ coaster was part of a 2002 Tour de Fat’ advertising campaign / community event by New Belgium Brewing Company of Fort Collins, Colo. Can’t remember where I picked it up, but I’ve kept it for almost a decade because it epitomizes several of my favorite past times–bicycling, RVing, having fun and Fat Tire, a fairly decent amber ale.

Back in 2002, the Tour de Fat had the New Belgium Dream Team and their bikes touring around the Western USA in a vintage 1963 Airstream, dubbed “Beerstream.”

The ‘Tour de Fat,’ in its 12th year, continues today. This year’s tour has two stops remaining: Tempe, AZ on Oct. 15; and Austin, TX on Oct. 22, 2011.

Billed as “A pedal-powered FUNdraiser of sustainable folly,” all event proceeds “help fund local bike trail advocacy and alternative transportation non-profit organizations in each town the Tour de Fat visits,” states its Website.
