Week 1, Day 1 – Habitat for Humanity RV Care-a-Vanner Build in Sebring, Florida

Share

This was the first day of our two-weeks volunteering with the Habitat for Humanity RV Care-a-Vanner build for the Highlands County Habitat in Sebring, Florida.

We are working on the first series of homes on the Mason’s Ridge 60-house subdivision project that is underway. This massive undertaking has a 40-week build schedule; 20 homes to be built and occupied by June, 2011. Currently there are eight houses in various stages of construction.

Today I helped wrap and waterproof window openings in House 6. Jimmy spent his first day installing metal roofing on House 4.

“I’m thrashed,” he says, “but it was meaningful work with a reasonable amount of laughter and a few loose screws.”

The RV Care-a-Vanner program is a wonderful way for RVers to travel and help our larger community. Find a build now on the online build listing or ongoing RV host sites.

If interested in more information about joining any of the builds, contact Mary Campbell at 1-800-422-4828, Ext. 7534, or e-mail rvinfodesk@habitat.org.
