This appeal for RV volunteers from AmeriCorps and Habitat for Humanity:

“Help families in Cedar Rapids, Iowa”

The 2009 AmeriCorps Build-A-Thon will be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, one year after floods ravaged the area. During the June 2008 Iowa floods, more than 3,900 homes were devastated.

Starting April 13, 2009, pre-build volunteers are needed to assist with the preparations for this 20-house project that will occur June 12-20, 2009.

Pre-build volunteers will focus on constructing wood floor systems on top of basements, as well as organizing build materials, tools, and job site logistics for the event. Pre-build volunteers in the area June 12-20 may participate in the AmeriCorps Build-A-Thon alongside homeowners and AmeriCorps members, if desired.

Since more than 400 AmeriCorps members will be on site for the week of the Build-A-Thon, however, the greater need is for pre- and post-build help.
