American Automobile Association projects that 41.9 million Americans are traveling at least 50 miles from their home Independence Day weekend (Wed, July 2 – Sun., July 6).
AAA figures that nearly 85-percent of travelers will drive automobiles or recreation vehicles, taking advantage of the lowest average Independence Day gas prices (US average $2.77 per gallon for regular) in the last five years.
This is the most travelers since 2007 and a 0.7-percent increase over 2014. The organization cites “rising income, a strong employment market and an increase in disposable income for Americans as reasons for the increase.
“Students are out of school and summer vacations are in full swing, making Independence Day typically the busiest summer travel holiday,” according to AAA.
