RVers gather in Corvallis, Oregon for Solar Eclipse

Share

Nine of us gathered in Corvallis, Ore., to experience the first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse in nearly 100 years. Our friends Tom Bombadil and Kathy Clunes invited us to dry camp at their place to witnessed this once-in-a-lifetime event when the Moon passed between the Earth and the Sun and Monday morning (Aug. 21) turned to night for one minute, 40 seconds.

Our four self-contained rigs started gathering on Sunday afternoon to settle in for two days of friendship, delicious bar-b-ques, and sharing stories of RV travels.

Our boondocking RVs included at right: (back in the trees) Bill and Mary Knowles’s molded fiberglass 19-foot Escape trailer; Julianne and Jimmy‘s 1999 22-foot Rialta; Thom and Dar Hoch’s 2016 Sprinter High Top Van, 144 inch (short) wheelbase, 4 wheel drive. (Conversion was done by Sportsmobile of Fresno); and, the back end of Kate Bright’s self-converted 20-foot 2012 Ford e250 cargo van.

It was amazing and unforgettable.
