Many RV snowbirds are looking to volunteer when they are visiting the Sun Belt. Those who are active enough could consider helping with planting trees or other projects in communities in South Carolina, Florida or Louisiana.
Arbor Day Foundation is a “nonprofit working to help plant, nurture and celebrate trees because they clean the air and water; ease poverty and hunger; prevent species loss; and feed the soul.”
National Arbor Day is always celebrated on the last Friday in April, however many states observe Arbor Day on different dates throughout the year based on best tree planting times in their area.
South Carolina’s State Arbor Day is the First Friday in December (12/2/16)
Florida’s State Arbor Day and Louisiana’s Arbor Day are both on the third Friday in January (1/20/17)
Why? Because, according to the Arbor Day Foundation, “the path of Hurricane Matthew this past October was far-reaching and destructive” tearing its way through Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. Volunteers can help “replant hope in the devastating wake of natural disasters” by volunteering or donating to the Community Tree Recovery Fund.
