PendletonLet\'erBuck(JulianneCrane) Pendleton, located in northeast Oregon, is internationally know for two things … the world-class Pendleton Woolen Mills and the world-class Pendleton Round-Up.

It is also a perfect stop for RVers touring the Pacific Northwest because it is packed full of history, city parks and afternoon tours.

At the turn of the 20th century, the town of Pendleton was a major railhead serving the Columbia Plateau and was a wool shipping center for sheep growers of the region. The Pendleton Mill began in 1909 with the production of quality Indian blankets and “distinctive styling. A study of the color and design preferences of local and Southwest Native Americans resulted in vivid colors and intricate patterns.”

The following year, on September 29, 1910, the first Pendleton Round-Up was to be “a frontier exhibition of picturesque pastimes, Indian and military spectacles, cowboy racing and bronco busting for the championship of the Northwest.” All the stores in town closed and, according to a newspaper article at the time: “The largest crowd in Pendleton’s history,” 7,000 strong, showed up for the first show.
