Today was spent meandering through parts of the Texas Hill Country in search of wildflowers with my sister, Nancy Jean Butler.
On the stretch of rolling hills along US Highway 290, between Austin and the LBJ Ranch, we caught sight of a few patches of wildflowers — but, it seems we were a little early for the incredible sea of Texas Bluebonnets that will soon blanket the state. The trip wasn’t a complete waste of time, we drive a few short miles west to Fredericksburg for a relaxing lunch.
One great Web site if you are interested in researching this region of Texas is Hill Country Cruising, especially if you are traveling with a motorcycle in tow.
It states: “The Texas Hill Country, without a doubt, offers some of the best year-round motorcycle riding to be found in the state of Texas.” The site offers maps, pictures, recreational vehicle camp parks and information about numerous small towns that dot the area.
