All RVers and other users of our 391 magnificant National Parks have an opportunity to join the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation on Sept. 26, 2009, for “a day of service and celebration.”
You can find a full listing of park events and opportunities to volunteer by clicking on www.nps.gov/september26/.
Sept. 26 is also National Public Lands Day and entrance to all national parks is free.
Most parks are not waiving other “user fees” such as backcountry permits and camping fees.
Yellowstone, however is offering free camping at Norris Campground on the night of Sept. 26. (To arrange for a camping waiver call (307) 344-2052 before Sept. 24.)
BTW Ken Burns’s new documentary “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea,” premiers on PBS Sept. 27. Check your local listings for times.
