Our ‘just right’ camper found, within budget

Thanks to Jimmy’s persistence about scanning the internet and our commitment to travel half-way across the state to look at potential rigs–we found our ‘perfect camper.’

It is a 1992 8.5-foot S & S camper owned since it rolled off the assembly line by Rick and Julie Nelson (pictured at left) of Othello, Wash.

The Nelsons used this S & S for “hunting and fishing” trips, and one long distance journey to visit Quartzsite.

It has a gently used feel about it and has really been taken care of by the Nelsons. To our delight, it was being offered within our budget range.

It seemed what had botched the deal for earlier potential buyers is the fact that this particular model of weekend-type camper does not come equipped with a hot water tank or a shower. No problem for us.

During the two years we traveled in our 1996 Lance Lite, we used the on-board shower only about three times (we always found state parks when needed or took a solar shower outdoors). With our Lance, we ended up putting a tension rod in the shower/toilet area and using it as a closet for hanging coats and wet outdoor gear.

Guess what the S & S people did with all that unused ’shower space?’ They put in an actual closet and set of drawers. Brilliant use of space for storage. And as for hot water, there is a three-burner propane stove to heat water for washing dishes and taking sponge baths.
