Airstream Bambi owners Bill and Mary Knowles of Spokane, Wash., traveled to Texas’ Coastal Bend for warmth and sunshine–instead they’ve had to bundle up against the teeth-rattling cold, windy weather.

They left their winter base in 70-degree Phoenix for Rockport, Tex., where daytime highs are currently in the 40s (wind chill in the 30s). As with much of the country, this part of Texas is experiencing unseasonably low temperatures.

Bill wanted Spike, their smooth coat Fox Terrier, to run and play catch on the beach. So, one day we drove south to Port Aransas and Mustang Island. Spike was the only one to enjoy the sharp winds off the Gulf of Mexico.
