Aaron Walker, and his faithful pet companion Tela, were the only other campers at the San Angelo (Texas) State Park when our paths crossed a few weeks back.
Walker, an educator and school administrator, and Tela, a clever mixed-breed from the hills of Kentucky, were dry camping, sleeping al fresco, on their way from Gallap, N.M., to visit friends outside of San Antonio, TX.
Walker, 49, says that for more than 20 years, he has split his time between traditional teaching jobs and “traveling to places where I can be of help doing work with the poor or disenfranchised.”
He is currently engaged in a cross-country camping, community service and book writing journey.
During the past year his activities have included assisting churches with orphan care ministry on Native American reservations and cultivating gardens for recently widowed elderly in rural communities.
Walker can be reached at telabama@yahoo.com.

Wow “al fresca” camping and during a much colder Texax journey.
