This is the second in a series on ‘Summer reads for young RVers.’

Trixie Belden # 2The Red Trailer Mystery, by Julie Campbell, was first published in 1950, this slightly-dated mystery classic is still a sweet read for youngsters 9 to 12 years old who are not yet wired-to-the-hip with their Smart Phones.

In this second book in the ‘America’s favorite girl detective’ series, 13-year-old Trixie, and her best friend, Honey, go in search of their new acquaintance, Jim, after he runs away to evade his abusive stepfather.

They set out across upstate New York, along with Honey’s governess, in an Airstream-like travel trailer and stumble onto another puzzle when they camp beside a mysterious red trailer.

The book (Random House Books for Young Readers, 272 pages, $6.99 ISBN: 0375824111; e-book, ISBN: 0-307-80876-9) is available through public libraries, local bookstores or online booksellers. For more information on other Julie Campbell (1908-1991) books, click here.
