More than 39.3 million Americans are expected to travel this Memorial Day weekend, according to the American Automobile Association.
Of those traveling 50 miles or more from home during this unofficial start of summer, my wild guess–based on the huge (and growing) popularity of RVing–is that upwards of four-six million folks will be towing or driving a recreation vehicle to their favorite wooded public campground or RV park by the lake.
As for fuel prices, AAA states that, “Although gas prices are climbing across the country, they are nowhere near the recent highs of just a few years ago. Today’s U.S. average gas price is $2.33, which is seven cents less than a month ago and eleven cents higher than a year ago.”
It is recommended that travelers fill up before Memorial Day weekend “to avoid a seasonal price bump at the pump,” according to a AAA spokesperson.
