We have camped at Harris Beach State Park twice. The first visit was in 2010 when we hunkered down in the middle of a winter storm that was blowing along the Oregon coast. Then, maybe, three other campers where in the park. Our second visit was recently in the middle of a summer wave heat and all of the 156 sites were occupied, many with the maximum of 8 people.
Our semi-private tent site was sheltered by evergreen trees. Potable water, accessible flush bathroom facilities and free hot showers were nearby.
The campground sits above the beach at 150 ft. elevation. Each day we hiked one of several trails down to the beach.
As Jimmy and I discovered, the park’s beauty changes with the seasons. “Many people are drawn to the powerful and dramatic winter storms,” according to park rangers,”others seek the green and fragrant spring. Summer is the time to bring your kites, shovels and pails with dry days of sun and occasional fog. Fall is often the best time of year with clearer, warm days and gorgeous sunsets.”

NO BEACH FIRES now until 10/31/2016: Due to high fire conditions, Coos Forest Protection Association is imposing a Regulated Use Closure. All beaches fronting state parks in Harris Beach MU will be closed to beach fires. Beachfront parks include Harris Beach, Crissey Field, McVay, Winchuck, Pistol River, Meyers Creek, Whaleshead Beach and Lone Ranch.
