Downsizing for RVing lifestyle = garage sale

CraneSmithKnowlesDyshart_garageSaleAfter six months as caretakers for a beautiful piece of property north of Spokane, Wash., Jimmy and I will be hitting the road again in a few weeks.  Before the middle of October we plan to head south  in search of a warmer, no-snow winter.

Part of simplifying one’s life is the painful process of shedding years of “stuff” … even though this is the third time we’ve been through this “letting go” process, it’s still not easy … every item has a memory attached.

However, we made a commitment to a garage sale and invited three other friends–fellow snowbird RVers Mary and Bill Knowles of Spokane, and too-young-to-retire Dan Dysart of TumTum, Wash.–to bring along some of their stuff.

We all took in a little bit of money, but, more importantly, we all got rid of items that no longer served us. What was really fun was meeting and talking with the people who will use Jimmy’s oarmaster, my loft bed, Bill’s fishing gear, Mary’s cookbooks and Dan’s charcoal bar-b-cue.
