Longtime RV friends, and re-newed ones, along our Summer Oregon Trail adventure

+ButchMichaelsen_Alaskan_JulianneGCraneThe very best part of our years of RV travel is the incredible people we meet along the way and the opportunity to reconnect with longtime friends.

We caught up with our truck camper buddy Butch Michaelsen and his faithful cattle dog, Rip, in Halfway, Ore. Butch is caretaker of an amazing piece of property that sits at 3200 feet in the shadow of Cornucopia Peak.

Butch was excited about taking delivery of his brand new custom-made 2014 pop-top Alaskan truck camper. He will carry on his 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 4WD flatbed truck. To read more about Butch, click here.

+SharonVail-JulianneGCrane_JimmySmithEach time we find ourselves in Central Oregon we make certain to stop by longtime friends Sharon and Ron Vail near Redmond, Ore. Sharon and I first met in Ft. Smith, Ark., back in the mid-90s and we’ve been friends ever since.  In those days we could hike mountain trails and eat chocolate sundaes.  These days we often just sit on the back porch in rocking chairs and get caught up on each other’s life.

Sharon and Ron are looking forward to buying their first RV–a small Lance travel trailer with a slide to use when Ron goes game bird hunting.

+FtStevens-DougCheryl-JimmyJulianneAt Oregon’s Fort Stevens State Park we met up with Douglas George and his bride, Cheryl Windorf.

Douglas and Jimmy worked together at a Spokane bicycle shop back in the 1980s and only recently reconnected through the magic of the Internet.

Cheryl and Douglas rode down from Olympia, Wash., on their 2002 Moto Guzzi LeMans motorcycle. The newlyweds love “tent camping on the motorcycle or car.” In fact they love it so much, they spent their honeymoon motorcycling and tenting in Yellowstone National Park.

Future posts will talk about other RV friends we caught up with along the road.
