Happy Winter Solstice from our journey around the lower 48

Jimmy and Julianne in Yuma for Winter Solstice 2019

In terms of daylight, the winter solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. In 2019, it “occurs on Saturday, December 21, at 11:19 p.m. EST,” according to the Farmers Almanac.

At the exact moment of this year, we’ll be sleeping. However when we wake, the sun will be slowly drifting north into the Tropic of Capricorn.

Noon, CT, 12/21/19, longest shadow.

Somewhere I read that if you step outside at noon on the day of the winter solstice, you will cast your longest shadow of the year.

As we are changing seasons, Jimmy is once again tinkering with the 14’ x 7′ interior of our pop-up trailer.

In Jimmy Smith’s Another View, he writes about his Origami Life on the road.
