Lockhart State Park is a small rustic park set in the rolling forested terrain of central Texas.
Situated on 263 acres of land acquired in 1934, Lockhart State Park is one of many parks built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) from 1935 to 1938. Many of these structures remain including a large hilltop refectory, and the rock dams and bridges along Clear Fork Creek.
The small campground is popular with RVers, only 18 RV/tent sites, with utilities. ($20-$24/night + $3 daily/entrance fee). Restrooms and showers nearby.
Short hiking trails and opportunities to catch bass, catfish, and sunfish in (not-so) Clear Fork Creek. Swimming pool, noon-7 p.m. (closed Tuesday) Memorial Day-Labor Day.
It also has a couple of other things going for it. Number one is its location — near some famous BBQ restaurants including — Smitty’s Market, Black’s BBQ, Chisholm Trail Barbeque and Kreuz BBQ. (More about these restaurants in another post.)
