Dry camping, shooting pool at SKP Kofa Koop, Yuma

In an attempt to keep as far south as possible in hopes of experiencing that warm Arizona Sun, we drove along I-8 from Casa Grande to the SKP Kofa Koop RV park in Yuma, Ariz.

This popular winter Escapees member park destination is about seven miles south of I-8 near the Marine Corps Air Station. While it is sunny, there continues to be a chilling wind.  No complaints at this end, however, when one reads about the extensive winter storms in the Midwest.

Because we are only staying for two nights, we are camping in the boondock area for $7.50 per day + tax (7-day limit)

Other Rates:
Daily–$20 + Electricity and tax
Weekly–$100 + Electricity and tax
Dump fee–$10.
Electricity rate — $0.1325/kwh.

Amenities: Swimming pool and hot tub (closed for repairs until mid-March), bingo and cards, library, social hour, free WI-FI, and outdoor shuffleboard.

However, if truth be know, the primary reason we stopped here was for Jimmy to play on the club’s pool tables. Talk is that they’ve been recently re-covered … however “there is a fair amount of complaint” that the tables are now not quite level and the ball can drift a little when heading toward the corner pocket.

Jimmy did run into Mark Snyder, a fellow pool player from the Pacific Northwest. The first time they played was last fall at Park of the Sierras near Coarsegold, Calif.  Mark and his wife, Colleen, are from Mount Vernon, Wash., and have been at Kofa Koop for three month.  As soon as the weather breaks in the Midwest they will be headed that way to visit a daughter who is teaching in Iowa.
