Our next destination: Joshua Tree National Park

Share

75_JoshuaTreeNP_iconIn 2011, Joshua Tree National Park, in southern California, commemorated ’75 years of inspiration.‘ President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the park into existence with a presidential proclamation in 1936.

Next week, we’re heading toward Black Rock campground in the high desert (4,000-feet elevation) above Desert Hot Springs, Palm Springs and Palm Desert in the Coachella Valley.

By checking the park’s Website, we’ve discovered there are no hookups for recreation vehicles. If we want a campfire we must bring own firewood. On the plus side are the flush toilets and a dump station.

We are not going to make reservations because we do not know our exact day of arrival and are traveling mid-week when there are usually fewer campers. However, for reservations at Black Rock and Indian Cove campgrounds from October 1 through May 31 call 1-877-444-6777 (up to six months in advance of the date you want to reserve). Or go online at www.recreation.gov.
