First night: Tehachapi … and RVer Jimmy Smith’s thoughts

We had a late morning departure on Monday from SKP Park Sierra south of Yosemite National Park.

We stopped for supplies and fuel in Fresno before heading south along Hwy 99 to Bakersfield and east on Hwy. 58, climbing out of the flog/smog of the San Joaquin Valley to an elevation of 3,970 feet and Tehachapi, a delightful community that boasts “all four seasons.” (In fact, snow is expected here by the end of the week.)

We only traveled 190 miles today, but that was enough. We’ve started our winter journey. (Read Jimmy Smith’s reflections on this first day out by clicking on Jimmy Smith’s Another View. and scrolling down to Feb. 4, 2013)

We stopped at the Mountain Valley RV Park near the airport. It is a perfect over night stop on the edge of the Mojave Desert. For less than $26 (SKP 15% discount) one gets electricity and water (dump site on property). Plus a laundry and fantastic shower facilities … lots and lots of hot water. The park is located adjacent to a glider port. There is a small cafe at the airport open with a limited menu for breakfast and lunch.
