Update 10/14/08: Following Gaylord Maxwell’s untimely death, “Life on Wheels RV conferences discontinued.”
Gaylord Maxwell’s family sent this e-mail Sept. 20, 2008:
“Today at 2 p.m. (PT) our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed. Gaylord Maxwell will always be remembered for his lifetime commitment to family, friends and of course RVing.
His final advice to us all from his last written column (in Motorhome magazine): ‘A reality is that you can have your cake and eat it too.’
Thank you all for touching his life.”
Gaylord, 83, of Hayden, Idaho, was founder of RV Life on Wheel Conference, elected to the RV Heritage Foundation Hall of Fame, author of “Home Sweet Motorhome” and “Fulltiming“ and wrote a monthly column for 28 years in MotorHome magazine.
Gaylord will be missed by thousands, if not millions, of RVers. Our thoughts are with his dearly loved wife, Margie. A private family memorial service is planned in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Gaylord Maxwell. I loved every article he wrote in Motorhome magazine. I always learned from it and it gave me strength to keep on RVing which I love and I know he did as well. RVers are a special group.

We are deeply saddened at the loss of a great man Gaylord Maxwell and our thoughts and prayers are with Margie and the family. It was an honor knowing this very professional man and having the good fortune of teaching for him in the Life On Wheels seminars. He professed that each RV’er should have a goal; his was to take RV’ing to the next level through education and he succeeded immensely.
