In early 2015, solo RVer Catherine Woods, 75, of Asheville, N.C., took off on a grand adventure to the southwest in her brand new 13-foot fiberglass Scamp travel trailer.

“I loved the weather and beautiful skies,” said the part-time registered nurse who camped much of January and February in Arizona’s state and county parks.

“It was a challenge,” she recalled, “but I’ve always liked being challenged and think it is necessary for keeping a vibrant lifestyle. Here’s how I look at things: I can either do these scary things or live a joyless life. Those are my only two choices.”

This winter Woods plans to RV to Texas and California. In the Lone Star State she’ll have a wide choice of destinations, such as the rolling Hill Country, vast prairies and plains, the Rio Grande Valley, and the Gulf Coast.

Next we will talk with RVer and potter Lezlie Finet about one popular ‘Winter Texan’ destination on the Gulf Coast.
