Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park RV Campground, Hill Country Texas near Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg_sign_JulianneGCraneWhat a find for traveling Snowbirds.

The Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park is located in the middle of the Texas Hill Country, just three miles south of Fredericksburg, TX, on State Highway 16.

On the mid-November day Jimmy and I pulled into the RV campground around 4 p.m., black clouds were thickening overhead, winds were blowing hard and, according to the local NPR station, there was an 80-percent chance of thunderstorms. Knowing the kind of weather that can roll through these parts, we wanted to hunker down before ‘anything’ broke loose.

Traveling in a truck/camper, it didn’t take long for us to get settled in our site, one of 98 RV spaces with 30 and 50 amp electrical hook-ups, water sewer and cable TV. (click on map to enlarge)

Cost is $35/night with full hookups, and blessed hot showers. WiFi is free.

Then we noticed all the people. It seems this park–because of its municipal golf course and proximity to historic Fredericksburg, the Texas Hill Country, Lyndon B. Johnson’s family ranch, and Austin–is a place that attracts a full influx of Winter Texans (Snowbirds). Cost–Monthly $420 (available September 1-March 31 only). Call  (830) 997-7521 for details. (Information updated 3/2016)
