Longtime RVers and avid ‘dry campers’ Dave and Maisie Beattie of Sorrento, British Columbia, shared many insights about boondocking, and a lot of laughs, during the brief time our paths crossed at Buckskin Mountain State Park, north of Parker, AZ.

Tonight they will be rendezvousing with other boondockers on Bureau of Land Management property a few miles south of Parker on the California side of the Colorado River.

“We have been meeting friends there for about four years,” says Dave Beattie, who retired from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They will stay there, using their two 85-watt solar panels for power, for about two weeks before moving onto another location.

“We’re looking at a couple of places in the Yuma area,” says Maisie. “Dave likes to bicycle and I love to golf. Both of those activities are available there.

“But, who knows,” she adds, “we’re open, if something more fun or interesting comes up, we’ll do that.”
