Lake Wenatchee (Washington) State Park … family campground, convenient to Puget Sound

Share

If you are looking for a quiet campground where you can commune with nature …  Lake Wenatchee State Park in peak season is not the place. It is an extremely popular destination for families and large groups from the Seattle and Puget Sound region.

The views of the glacier-fed lake and surrounding mountains are breathtaking  … however, we all have to return to our campsite some time … and this park really packs people in with sites that are typically fairly small and close together.

We were traveling mid-week without reservations and arrived at the front gate around 2:30 p.m. We got the very last spot–Site 115 in the North Campground, a back-in site next to the pathway to a restroom. (Photo right: View from our picnic table.)

On the day we visited in mid-August, there were lots of groups with an amazing number of active children riding bicycles everywhere — along the designated campground roads and through individual campsites.

This is a great park for families and group reunions.  You might want to read reviews by other campers on Yelp, click here.

From Seattle-area travel east along scenic U.S. Hwy 2, then north on SR 207.  The park is 18 miles northwest of Leavenworth, a Bavarian-themed tourist town.

According to an official website,  campgrounds close from Nov. 8-April 1, depending on snow conditions. All sites are reservable between May 15-Sept. 30. Call 1-888-CAMPOUT (888-226-7688) or visit parks.wa.gov/reservations.
