Umpqua Lighthouse State Park, safe harbor for campers in rolling storms

We inched our way up the Oregon Coast during rolling Pacific storms and are ever grateful for the excellent Oregon State Parks system.

For a reasonable cost RVers can expect, at a minimum, electricity and water. Many sites also include sewer and cable hookups. (Tent campers will spend less.) For those of us who travel in a truck/camper, other small RVs or tents … one of the biggest attractions of the state parks are the hot showers, especially on these cold, rainy days.

After Harris Beach State Park, we made our way north to Umpqua Lighthouse State Park, less than a mile from Salmon Harbor on Winchester Bay. The intimate campground and day use areas are on the edge of the sweet, freshwater Lake Marie.

There are RV sites with hookups; tent sites; deluxe yurts (more about those in another posting); and two small log cabins. We paid $16 for a site with electricity and water hookups and a view of Lake Marie.

Within a short walk of the campground the 65-foot Umpqua River Lighthouse guards the entrance to Winchester Bay. There are other hikes in the park, including around Lake Marie.
