The nostalgic American Road Magazine

AmericanRoadMagazineI love the “romance-of-the-open-road” feel of American Road magazine that celebrates “our two-lane highways of yesteryear … and the joys of driving them today.”

American Road ($4.95) is a quarterly, all-color, 84-page magazine that you can actually hold in your hands.

The folks at American Road say they are “taking the ultimate road trip, and we’d like to take you along. Whether you tend to burn rubber, or you prefer to stop and smell the coffee, we’ll show you what’s out there to help you plan your next adventure.  American Road is your armchair guide to the back roads of North America-complete with breathtaking photography and tales that will make you laugh out loud.”

The Summer 2016 edition pays homage to “comics strips and the American road.” The lead features highlights  the “Popeye vs. Superman Route, a 120-mile drive through the Land of Lincoln that encounters Moon Mullins, Neptune the Navy Pig, and the comical pottery creations of the obscene Kirkpatrick brothers before it ends in Metropolis at the big red boots of the Man of Steel.”

The American Road magazine has not gone completely retro technically, its website (americanroadmagazine.com) gives fast access to travel information, travelers’ forums, road news and podcasts.
