Camped on the edge of the Allegheny NF
We are camped tonight just south of the small, western Pennsylvania town of Tionesta on the edge of the Allegheny National Forest.
We found a year-round US Army Corps of Engineers’ Outflow Campground in the Tionesta Recreation Area, about 1/2 mile out of Tionesta.
No one is here except us, so we took the camp host site. For the winter season, beginning Nov. 1, camping is free. Currently there are flush toilets and showers, drinking water, no hookups. Self registration: $12/night. $6/Senior Access.
BTW: The Outflow campground is located across the creek from the Tionesta Recreation Area Campground (PDF123KB), just below the dam and on the south side of Tionesta Creek. During the regular camping season: May-Labor Day, this campground has 124 full hook-up campsites, 60% of which can be reserved up to six months before arrival by calling the National Recreation Reservation Service toll-free at 1-877.444-6777 or on their web site www.Recreation.gov.
