Time and time again, one hears of community-style pot luck dinners at RV parks and campgrounds across the U.S.A. and Canada.

One of those old fashioned, down-home gatherings happened earlier this week at our Winter Texans’ home at the Sandollar RV Park in Rockport, Texas.

Delicious salads, casseroles, corn fritters and desserts crowded the serving tables along side heaping platters of fried fish and oysters (fresh from the Aransas Bay).

Helping to prepare the seafood were Phil Hall of British Columbia and Thom Hoch of Oregon. Thom and his wife, Dar, have been coming to the Sandollar RV Park for three years.

“One of the things we love about this place are the friendly people,” says Thom. “That’s the main reason we keep coming back.”

This is the first year at the Sandollar for Phil and his wife, Rose-Anne, both retired financial planners. The fulltimers also are spending time this winter in Bandera, Texas.

“We’ve been living and traveling in our 2004 Pace Arrow since going fulltime almost seven years ago,” says Phil. “We love the freedom of the RV lifestyle and the people we meet along the way.”
