A number of charity organizations actively recruit the muscles and brains of RV volunteers. One such non-profit is Habitat for Humanity, an ecumenical Christian organization that seeks to “eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.”

Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

One active group of volunteers is the RV Care-A-Vanners. They travel in recreational vehicles (motorhome, travel trailer, 5th wheel or pop-up tent), covering their personal expenses, to Habitat affiliates across the United States and Canada, to help build houses. Each caravan usually lasts two weeks and includes eight to 10 RV units. Check the “Build Listing” for builds that fit your travel plans.

The RV Care-A-Vanner coordinator can be contacted by telephone at (800) 422-4828, Ext. 7534 or e-mail rvinfodesk@habitat.org. Faxes may be sent to (267) 295-8714. Mail may be sent to:RV Care-A-VannersHabitat for Humanity International121 Habitat StreetAmericus, GA 31709-3498.

It is the perfect opportunity to make a difference—and have fun while doing it.
