RV Snowbirds flock to open air markets in Yuma

SunriseMarket-gate_JimmySmith_JulianneGCraneAs with most Snowbird destination cities, Yuma offers a number of local farmers’ markets and flea markets.

On one Sunday recently Jimmy and I stopped by two of Yuma’s popular open air markets–The Sunrise Farmers’ Market and the Arizona Market Place

YumaQuartermaster-depot_JulianneGCraneThe free SUNRISE FARMERS’ MARKET is held at the Yuma Quartermaster Depot State Park, 201 N. 4th Ave., on Sundays between October-April, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. For information call (928) 782-0063.

We made our way through the market, picked up a couple of items, and tried the refreshing cold (coffee) brew on tap by Building3 Coffee Roasters.    We then strolled through part of the original depot buildings remaining on the park grounds that contain exhibits covering the military history of the site including being used by the U.S. Army to store and distribute supplies for military posts in the Southwest region. The depot sits on the banks of the Colorado River.

During the winter season, the park is open 7 days a week from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The Visitor Center remains open until 5 p.m.

ARIZONA MARKET PLACE was established in 2001 and is open mid-October to mid-April, Thursday-Sunday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

ArizonaMarket_inside_JulianneGCraneAfter paying an entry fee of .50 cents each, we wandered through several hundred shaded selling spaces including half-a-dozen RV supply vendors. Other than the RV Water Filter Store where we purchased a water hose and filters, we were underwhelmed by the quality and price-points of the majority of outlets.

Located on 32 acres, the Arizona Market Place is located just south of the intersection of 32nd Street and Avenue 4E in Yuma. Click here for map and directions.

Abundant paved free parking that accommodates automobiles, buses and recreational vehicles of all sizes.
