Many RVers will be among the 54.3 million Americans traveling 50 miles or more over the four-day Thanksgiving holiday.

And, this year’s Thanksgiving is projected to be the busiest Turkey Day since 2005.  AAA estimates that 2.5 million more folks will be traveling than last year. That’s about a 5 percent increase. AAA has been reporting on holiday travel trends for more than two decades.

Jimmy and I will be among the majority of holiday-goers–we are hitting the road.  We are crossing the Oregon Cascades for dinner and football watching with long-time RVers Sharon and Ron Vail near Bend. (Sharon is an amazing cook.)

Nation-wide, motorists can expect the highest Thanksgiving fuel prices in four years.  However, travelers are not letting higher costs deter them from taking Thanksgiving road trips, said AAA.

Yesterday, in Oregon we filled up paying $3.05 for unleaded regular. As of Nov. 12, the national average was $2.70. In Florida, last year RVers were paying an average of $2.47 a gallon, AAA said.

Of the 90 percent of travelers driving, hundreds of thousands will be making the trip in their recreation vehicles. The four-day holiday is a great opportunity for multi-generational family RV road trip.  A quick check of the Oregon State Park system reveals there are few to no reserved camping sites available.
