Update on Quartzsite, Part 2 — ‘The Big Tent’ RV Show Jan. 18 to 26, 2014

Another major draw to Quartzsite, Ariz., each winter is the free Big Tent Quartzsite Sports, Vacation and RV Show. This year it takes place January 18-26, 2014.

This recreation vehicle show, billed as “the largest gathering of its kind in the world,” showcases hundreds of RVs, more than 300 vendors, and an estimated 150,000 potential buyers.

Paul Evert’s RV Country is the exclusive RV dealer during The Quartzsite Show. There will be several hundred new and used RVs on display to peek into and check out.

+QuartzsiteRV_people_tentWalking through the Big Tent this year will be RVers Melanie and Richard Cullen of Vista, Calif., who also own Blue Sky Energy, manufacturer of solar charge controllers.

“We do not have a booth or sell directly but go there to support the many companies in the region that sell our solar charge controllers,” said Melanie Cullen. “The two largest companies selling Blue Sky Energy products in Quartzsite are Discount Solar and Solar Bill.”

The Cullens began RVing in 1992 and the following year started developing products for the RV market out of their home garage. “If you do lots of dry camping, like we do, solar is a good way to go,” said Melanie Cullen.

“There will be an average of 100,000 RVs dry camping out on the BLM land,” she said. “Many RV snowbirds from Canada come to the region for inexpensive long term camping.” The Cullens will be boondocking in their 34-foot 2007 National RV Dolphin class A motor home.

The next post will take a look at one group of RVers, the Escapees RV Club, who meet each year at Quartzsite to renew old friendships and take advantage of the many shopping bargains.
